Is graphic designing a good career or is it a dying field? You may have heard conflicting debates on Is graphic designing a good career option or not, so I must emphasize that it is growing overall as an industry. It is very clear that no matter what happens as long as there are businesses out there, graphic design will always be needed.
Graphic designing is not just making something look pretty, it is about visually solving problems. It is understanding typography, layouts, spacing, colors, and how to attract people to read whatever you are designing. Yes! It does take a lot of hard work, practice, and dedication but if you have love and an eye for making things look good, you can get there.
A graphic designer can either opt for a job or business.
- If you are working in a company and you have a very specific project that is all for that one brand, you have all sorts of requests daily for small design projects and long-term projects such as building a new website, ads, postcards, flyers, etc.
There is a limit to the level of innovation that you can provide as it usually has to go through many levels of approval but you can still add your creativity and should do so to elevate and grow that company.
- On the other hand, in your own business you not only have to have the skill of graphic design but you have to do all the other things that keep a business going. This includes finding clients, sending invoices, having your business registered with the government, growing your business. There is no limit to how much you can expand except on what effort you are willing to put into it. You can choose your schedule; choose the type of projects you want to work on and not have any boss hanging over your head.
Diverse Opportunities
In 2019, the design business generated $15 Billion in the US alone, just imagine the diverse opportunity out there.
Graphic design is a very unique business because every business needs branding or some form of promotional material, which can only be provided by a graphic designer. I can’t think of anything on this planet which does not need graphic design or a design.
It was also observed that the graphic designing business has raised by 3.5% over the last few years.
Conclusion
So, the actual question was ‘is graphic designing good?’. Yeah! Graphic designing is still profitable in 2021.
